Most Handsome Actors (According to Julie)

Posting by gracious permission of Emi here... (thank you very much, Emi!) Behold, 'tis me, JulieDee, here to act weird and say crazy things. 🤣

This entire post began as a sort of argument between me and a friend of mine, when we watched While You Were Sleeping. I thought (and hold to my opinion) that Peter Callaghan was... um... let's just say not the best-looking actor I've ever seen. And my friend insists that he is, to quote, "right on the verge of devastatingly handsome". After finally agreeing to disagree, I got on this tangent of making a list of whom I believe to be the handsomest actors I've ever seen... so yes, this is a weird little side thing I have been working on 🤣

Charlton Heston

While this list is not necessarily ranked, I just had to start with my favorite actor of all time... the classically handsome Charlton Heston, who was said to have had a "historical face", apparently, and was therefore cast into all sorts of ancient and medieval and western roles. (And as a history fan, how could I help but adore him??) I agree whole-heartedly at their casting choices and who could help but fall in love with his gorgeous blue eyes?? XD Lol, I am getting extremely sentimental here, but... oh my word... Ben-Hur... AGH IT IS THE BEST MOVIE IN THE WORLD!!!!! Ahem. Watch it if you haven't yet. Please. Charlton Heston's performance as Judah Ben-Hur is the single most amazing thing in the history of Hollywood.

James MacArthur

Ah, yes, my childhood crush... (always referred to as Fritz back in the day XD) I was ten years old the first time I laid eyes on James MacArthur and I fell head-over-heels in love. He was to my ten-year-old-self the handsomest man in the entire world and you do not want to know how extremely cheesy and sappy I got over him. Swiss Family Robinson was the first movie I ever saw him in, but I think I've seen... maybe six movies with him by now? Anyway. 'Tis hilarious now to remember how in love with him I used to be...

Logan Bartholomew

This is a new actor I have recently discovered. Best known as Willy LaHaye from the Love Comes Softly series. And allow me a mini-rant here... HOW DARE THEY KILL HIM OFF???!!!!! I shall never watch past the third movie again. No, he's not killed off in the fourth, but I didn't like that movie for other reasons which I shall not elucidate here for it would be off-topic. But this guy has just beautiful blue eyes and the most adorable grin ever...

Bill Pullman

And speaking of adorable, I present to you Bill Pullman (who looks like Robin Williams kind of, doesn't he???) He just happens to play Jack Callaghan, the brother of the not-so-good-looking Peter Callaghan mentioned above, and boy am I glad he ended up being the real romantic interest cuz he is SO much better. In personality and everything. Just plain a good, wholesome, sweet guy. Incidentally, I love his hair. For some reason I really like men's hairstyles in the 90's. Some of them.

Jimmy Stewart

And speaking of wholesome, Jimmy Stewart is practically the essence of that word. He's just a classic. And another of my absolutely most favorite actors in the world (second only to Charlton Heston). I mean seriously, he just makes me smile. That's the best way I can think of to describe him. He's got the best voice ever and his expressions are truly his own, if that makes sense. XD There will never be another Jimmy Stewart...

Richard Beymer

Heheh... meet my second-biggest childhood crush... Rab Silsbee aka Richard Beymer. Okay, so he's not quite as devestatingly-handsome to me now as he was to twelve-year-old me who quite literally swooned in front of the VCR when I first watched Johnny Tremain... and then went on to carry pictures of him in my purse for the next two years... and even a copy of the Johnny Tremain book (yes, I did have a sorta-crush on Johnny himself aka Hal Stalmaster, but that was rather short-lived XD) I watched the final scene of West Side Story when I was sixteen and even though I was over the crush by then, I wept hysterically when I saw Rab die... Okay, I know Rab is not his real name, but I can hardly think of him any different, lol. Also the Diary of Anne Frank! Talk about tragic...

Jonathan Crombie

Okay, okay, calm down! I know you are ALL swooning by now, because what red-blooded kindred spirit in her right mind isn't already in love with Jonathan Crombie because come ON, he's GILBERT BLYTHE!! Need I say more? I know I needn't.

Crispin Bonham-Carter

Some of you are probably looking at me funny by now (I know my sisters do, they're Darcy fans XD) because Crispin Bonham-Carter aka Mr. Bingley (Pride and Prejudice) is not what people would consider conventionally handsome... I think...? I have a hard time figuring out the whole conventionally handsome thing. Cuz actors nowadays who are considered the most handsome I kinda think "ew" half the time, lol. But hear me out. Bingley is adorable. And he is so sweet. And I am also a sucker for blue eyes, if you haven't figured that out by now, lol. Also that smile. And the contagious joy and energy. I mean, seriously! He is a WAY better guy than Darcy, in so many ways *ducks flying vegetables* and I am so dying on that hill. Probably literally once you Darcy fans get after me. I'll just leave it with this. If I had the choice between Darcy and Bingley, I would choose Bingley so fast, everyone's heads would spin. 🤣

Chris Evans

Captain America, of course. He's so cool. I'll admit, I am so not a sci-fi person, so the movie itself isn't a huge favorite of mine. But I love the historical scenes and yeah, the transformation scene is really neat. XD

Hugh Grant

Because I can't just not mention my favorite Austen hero. *ducks flying vegetables* Seriously, where are you guys getting these things??? Anyway. Yes, another character I like more than everyone's adored Mr. Darcy...

Colin Firth

But for all that I've said above, I have to put Darcy in here anyway, because yes, I'll admit it, he is swoon-worthy XD. So PUT AWAY YOUR VEGETABLES! And I shall further admit that my fourteen-year-old self, having gotten over aforementioned Richard Beymer, did certainly have a crush on Darcy before she realized how much better she liked Bingley...

Elvis Presley

Because this one is just a no-brainer. C'mon, you all agree with me, don't you? I know you do, even if you don't admit it. XD

John Wayne

Because it's not just guys who were more famous when they were young who get to be the best-looking. And John Wayne is one of the best actors in the world.

Jeff Richards

I've only seen him as one of the crazy redheads in Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (I had a brief three or four month obsession with that movie when I was thirteen-ish...) but I think we can all agree he was the best-looking of all afore-mentioned crazy redheads, right? XD I didn't actually notice him much until last year or so when I was dream-casting my book A Time of War, and he would honestly make the best Mac...

Guy Madison

Okay, so I have to admit that I've never seen a movie with Guy Madison in it... something I might have to look into changing in the near future here... but yeah, I put this one on the list only going by the looks and nothing about personality. Buuuut... in the dream-casting I mentioned just above, this guy would make a passable Ronnie, eh?

Tobey Maguire

I'll admit, I hesitated a bit on putting Tobey Maguire into this because... again... not really a "conventionally handsome" actor. He's got some decidedly unflattering angles for sure, but again... blue eyes... and an adorable smile... Anyway, I do have a soft spot for Spider-Man as those of you who knew me in my "Seon" days already know... Anyway. Personality goes hand-in-hand with looks anyway, and in his most famous role as Spider-Man, he is the sweetest, most caring and selfless guy, and that goes a long, long way.

My sincerest apologies to any handsome actors whom I neglected to mention. My brain only stretches so far... XD I'll prob end up doing a follow-up post in case there are enough forgotten ones. But before y'all ask, no, I am not adding Anthony Andrews (aka Scarlet Pimpernel). He only looks handsome enough for this list in one scene, and that's not enough to make the list. XD But here's the link to the scene anyway.

And I further apologize for my sappy insanity in writing this post in the first place... it's been so long since I've fangirled this hard, it sounds funny to me... 🤣 Anyway. Time to post this and go back to my (somewhat) dignified self... Emi, you can have your blog back now. I'm done taking over... for now XD

EDIT:

Of course... I did forget somebody... Cary Elwes, of course! Although that hideous mustache he's got in The Princess Bride does not help his case XD

Cary Elwes

  1. A very good list, although I would have to say as a fellow Charlton Heston fan, I still believe the The Ten Commandments was his best roll.

    1. Ooh, The Ten Commandments is hard to beat... that has got to be the second greatest epic film ever on my list...

  2. Thank you, Julie, for coming back and fangirling for us. xD

I love Charlton Heston (and Ben-Hur is one of my all-time favorite movies - SO good), but though I think he's objectively a good-looking fellow I never personally found him attractive in That Sort of Way. I have come to think that such matters are extremely subjective, actually...a lot of conventionally handsome people I just don't personally find that attractive, and sometimes the people I *do* find attractive other people don't. (E.g., I never had a crush on Gilbert Blythe. Really and truly.)

To speak for myself, I wholeheartedly support your liking Bingley better than Darcy. I'm not a huge Darcy person, and Bingley's a sweetheart.

    1. Heheh... this was fun to put together XD

Oh yes ABSOLUTELY It is just an unbelievably amazing movie, I can hardly put it into words but I am so obsessed with it...

Oh yeah, it's def a matter of opinion, which is why I had to clarify this was "according to Julie" XD Confidentially, I'll tell you I'm in love with a guy that totally blows all these movie stars away, they're just not handsome enough XD (he looks like Ronnie, shhh). But as far as actors go, they're not so bad. =P

Lol, I have to admit that I never had like an actual crush on Gilbert, although that doesn't stop me from thinking he's adorable and one of my top fave fictional guys... ♥

And I am SOOOOOO glad to hear that about Bingley cuz seriously I can't hardly find anyone who agrees with me, everyone's so blinded by the we-must-be-obsessed-with-Darcy thing that they never realize how wonderful Bingley is... wow, that's a long sentence. Anyhoo. Thanks for your comment, it made my day =D

    2. Oooh, is that so? Well, I can see how all these fellows would pale in comparison then ;)

Heh, that's fair (and I've always LIKED Gilbert, to be clear. And always thought Anne was most unjust for holding on to that grudge like she did :P).

I know, I find the total Darcy-obsession a little baffling! I like his character arc, and I think he and Lizzy absolutely work great together, but he somehow never feels like a super fun or enjoyable person to be around? (And I admit that perception is probably colored by the 1995 version - I think they play his stiffness and snootiness up a little more than was the case in the book.)

Aw, thank you so much! <3 :D
